The Performance Project

During the spring and early summer of 2009 I have been funded by the British Council though the EVS program to lead the performance project at Circus Maniacs School of Circus Arts.

A large number of circus, theatre and performance-orientated individuals took part and were guided in a series of workshops to explore, devise and create a performance. The workshops involved circus, dance, theatre, rhythm, drawing and music.

I also organised guest teaching workshops by The Drawing Room (Georgia Jacob and Stephanie Vr) and by Paron Mead (UK/THAI).

The result was Keeper of the King's Conscience, which turned out to revolve a lot around jesus as the most obvious factor, but was a celebration of love and death, religion and faith.

During each performance we had a drawing station on stage where the performers were constantly drawing the audience and what was going on on stage. All the drawings were hung during the performance to form the backdrop of the stage. After the performance I asked the audience to come on stage to view the drawings and if they found themselves or a drawing they particularly liked they could have it. To see some of the drawings that remained click here.

To the right are some images of the show as performed at the Old Fire Station also known as the Island in Bristol.

On Stage were Verena Kausche, Mariposa, Alessandro Bisio, Goncalo Ramos, Suzi Erduman, Annie Callaghan, Daryl Bartle and Nell Tydeman. Directed by myself.

the Keeper of the King's Conscience was then accepted for redevelopment for Resolution! 2010 at the Place in London. It was performed on the 16th of April 2010. The re-invented version was inspired by the original piece and featured some of the choreograhy, but mostly became a completley new piece of work.

Performer's at the Place were Zuleika Gregory (Aerial corde lisse), Carly Etherington, Jessie Percival, Hayley Adams and Kim Noble.

A dance (non aerial) version of the performance was staged at the Ausform Platform on 5th of February as support for LUR. Images to come.

At the moment, the keeper of the king's conscience is available as a trilogy of short performances that border between live art and dance.

My aim is to run a series of these performance project, so if you are interested in how, when and where or would like to be involved participating, sponsoring, hosting, guest teaching or have any questions about the process and possibilites get in contact.
